Responsibilities and Sub-Committees
Introduction
The purpose of this note is to describe the key
responsibilities of the Trustees of Peaslake School and
their
relationship to the operations and direction of the school. The nature
of the
responsibilities will evolve over time in relation to the school's
needs and
there will be shifts resulting from the skills and interests of the
elected
Trustees.
Overall
Executive Committee of Trustees
The role of the Executive Committee is to meet at least once every half
term to
provide overall steering and direction for the operations and strategy
of the
school. Its oversight duties will include:
- Education provision
oversight
- Staffing and Curriculum
- Financial operations
- Fundraising management
- Health and Safety
- Parental Liaison
Marketing and Community
relations
A number of sub-committees will exist to undertake the detailed
workings of the
Trustees these sub-committees will meet between Executive Committee
meetings
and report back results accordingly.
Education
Policy & Curriculum Sub-Committee
This sub-committee will work directly with the Head Teacher and members
of
staff to oversee the curriculum and policies of the school and
establish
and monitor development targets. This group will also specifically
support preparation and conduct of school OFSTED inspections.
It will
also oversee admissions numbers and class balancing.
Professional development of staff will be directed by the committee.
This group
will also oversee the maintenance of the school and its adherence with
Health
& Safety directives. It will also oversee child protection
responsibilities. It will manage, together with the Chairman
of the Trust
implementation of performance management.

Financial Management
& Planning Sub-Committee
This subcommittee will work with the Treasurer of the Peaslake Schools
Trust to
oversee the financial matters of the school. This group will
be
responsible for annual planning, preparation of accounts and financial
reporting as well as day to day financial operations of the
school. This
group will oversee the covenants process.

Parental and Community
Liaison Sub-Committee
This sub-committee is responsible for managing the interactions between
the
school and the parents, as well as the wider community. The
primary
purposes of this liaison are to encourage voluntary support for school
activities and to participate in the social fundraising. This
group
oversees the activities of the Parents Forum and drives participation
in the
Community Council. The CHAPS group will be strongly aligned
with this
group. It is responsible for the maintenance of duty rosters for
parental
duties (eg. lunch and gardening). It is also responsible for the wider
marketing of the school and the maintenance of the school
website and
database of key supporters and contacts.

Fundraising
Sub-Committee
This sub-committee is responsible for overseeing the raising of funds
for the
school from social and other events over the course of the
year. This
group will also coordinate all marketing for school events. The group
is also
responsible for seeking out other sources of funds for the
school and
investigating grant-giving trusts and other benefactors to
support the
income of the school. This committee will form specific sub-groups for
major
events and fund-raising pushes (eg 10th Anniversary or New
building).
